I wanted to give you an update on the post purge device you added to the Bederus burner. It's working really well. Before we added it, I was monitoring the burner cycle with the TED system... looks like we have doubled the cycle time and in theory I should be using almost half the oil that I was using before. This was a really good idea. Thanks again to you and Matt for coming up with this idea and getting it done so quickly.
 

Smart Controls

Smart Controls represent the lowest hanging fruit to make your system work more efficiently and save you energy and money in cost effective ways. If your boiler is like most, it is not smart at all. Most Oil boilers that are in service today utilize technology from the 1960s and 1970s when energy consumption was not a concern and Oil was cheap. When there is a call for heat, it heats up to a set temperature, weather it needs to be that hot or not. When the call for heat is satisfied, all of the latent heat that is in the boiler goes right up the chimney and is completely wasted. Smart controls save energy through a number of techniques:

  • Keep it Cool - The cooler the boiler is the more efficiently heat transfers from the fuel to the boiler.
  • Minimize Boiler Cycles – It takes 7 minutes for a boiler to hit its “steady state efficiency”. A boiler that short cycles will be operating at the lower end of the efficiency curve most of the time. Smart controls installed by reVision heat limit the number cycles and increases the average run time of your boiler resulting in longer run times. This simple change can increase the efficiency of your existing Oil boiler by as much as 15%!
  • Post Purge Controls – When your boiler has satisfied the demand for heat and turns off, the heat that is still in the boiler goes up the chimney; or it can be put to use. Typical “on/off” controls let this heat energy go up the chimney. Smart controls use this energy by extracting as much latent heat as possible.
  • Nighttime set back. Digital programmable thermostats let the house get cooler at night when it is not necessary to keep the entire house warm. Just a few degrees can make a big difference in the long run. After programming the thermostats once, they will work in concert with the new intelligence of the boiler to save you money 24/7.
