Our stance on Natural Gas and the impact of Fracking
There are environmental problems associated with EVERY fuel, Natural Gas is no exception. If you just look at the issues associated with Natural Gas and Fracking, you’re missing the point. We need energy and it’s not about Natural Gas or nothing. It’s about Natural Gas or Oil.
Compared to Tar Sands of Canada or entrusting Venezuela’s EPA (if it even has one), we believe Natural Gas to be a BETTER FUEL THAN OIL. It has a lower CO2 impact, lower sulfates and nitrates as well as lower particulate emissions. It’s also domestically produced.
Natural Gas should not be seen as a cure all for our energy problems, but it should be used wisely.
We need to use less of every fuel we use through better mechanical systems as well as through better insulation in our buildings. If we could install a Pellet boiler that hung on the wall and took pellets from a line on the street for $9,000 we would, and we’d sell a ton of them.
Unfortunately, we don’t have a simple fix.
Knowing everything we know about all of the environmental impacts regarding Natural Gas and Fracking, we still feel good installing a high efficiency natural gas boiler. We feel better installing a boiler in a house that is also taking on insulation improvements and we feel GREAT installing a pellet boiler.
The EPA will move to regulate drilling of Natural Gas, that’s almost a given, and in many ways the industry would prefer that to the state by state regulations that they’re facing now. Natural Gas will become marginally more expensive, and will be a great choice for people who need a new boiler to use a cleaner, domestic affordable fuel.
